The Conscious Environment -writing by artist Noel Molloy WHEN IS A THUG NOT A THUG… https://www.haus-a-rest.com/issue-29-writing-conscious-environment www.haus-a-rest.com/issue-29-writing-conscious-environment
The Conscious Environment by artist Noel Molloy - studied at Limerick School of Art and Design 1978 – 1982, has a Degree in Fine Art 1982. Works in sculpture/mixed media and performance art. He has exhibited and created performances extensively throughout Ireland, Western and Eastern Europe, and the U.S.A. https://www.noelmolloyart.com/about.html
WHEN IS A THUG NOT A THUG…
Japanese anemone (A. x hybrida): Late summer/early autumn flowers in shades of white and pink these perennials, are also called garden thugs. They will invade the space of neighboring plants, taking nutrients from the soil as they go - and it's extremely difficult to totally eradicate them.
Species of animal, plant and insect are being genetically modified for pleasure or to combat pests, is this interfering with the natural order of things and creating problems for the future.
Or is it, given our capacity to invent/create a natural process also. Some would believe there is untold damage being done or is the so called invasive species activities part of our evolution. invasive species is defined as “a. species that is non-native to the ecosystem under. consideration and whose introduction causes or is likely. to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to. human health.”
As we traversed the pandemic lockdowns we became prisoners of our environment, prevented from leaving our homes some of us became more aware of our living spaces be it an apartment, house or wherever we live. Some fortunate to have a garden could escape from the four walls of their space and interact with the wider environment while others invented ways of escaping their confinement. The space we occupy became more heightened in our consciousness and led to revamps; redecoration etc. new uses were developed to combat the isolation. Our environment became our safety blanket our guard against the invasion of covid and a safe haven. We will not look at our environment in the same way again and treat it with the respect it deserves. Social media provided an escape into the wider environment of galleries, museums etc. never had there being more interest in the Arts before. I was informed by some friends the postings on social media of my work old and new sustained them through the lockdown. New interests were discovered, working environments changed or abandoned in favor of life style changes with ambitions to be realized. The rediscovery of my immediate environment and researching some plants in my garden which are invasive is to me a metaphor of our vulnerability and our mortality. I wonder when talking to people and they remark how the pandemic was a reminder of simpler times, no sounds of traffic on the roads or airplanes in the sky and having a heightened awareness of their surroundings such as air free of traffic fumes or hearing the birds singing or the simple activity of walking in the countryside will they continue to discover that simplicity or slide back into the norm if there ever was such a thing as normal before. We need to continue to change to realize we are made of the same stuff and just because we can and do for our own profit, we need to stop the exploitation.

03. 09. 2022 - 11. 09. 2022.
Odzaci - Novi Sad imaf-festival.weebly.com/
At the beginning of this year, when we launched an open competition for the online program, the pandemic is expected to subside, which awakens new optimism. However, at the same time, a crisis in international political relations, on the soil of Eastern Europe, is becoming current. There is an aggression of the Russian military forces on Ukraine and, unfortunately, war. In such a very complicated international situation, the topic of an open competition for online video works comes to mind. We give the name "No Pandemic - No War" which is a reflection of our wish that by the beginning of the 24th International Festival of Multimedia Arts - IMAF 2022, both of these crisis events, which are very difficult for humanity, will end.
30 video works, 37 artists from 18 countries around the world, were selected at the competition for the online presentation of video works, entitled "No Pandemic - No War". The online presentation of video works, on the official YouTube channel of the IMAF festival, will be realized between September 3rd and 8th, 2022.
In addition to the online presentation, on September 3rd, an artistic event called "Day of The Rabbit " will be held in Odzaci for the second time, designed and led by Spike Mclarrity, an artist from United Kingdom. An open children's art workshop will be organized as part of the "Day of The Rabbit " manifestation on September 3rd, on the plateau of the Odzaci Sports Center.
The primary part of the 24th International Multimedia Art Festival - IMAF 2022 will certainly be the presentation of artworks, performances and live art actions. Over 30 artists from all over the world applied for the open competition, which was current at the beginning of the year. 16 artists from Italy, Greece, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom, Hungary and Serbia were selected to participate live this year. The presentation of artistic actions and live performances will be held from September 9th to 11th at two different locations in Odžaci and Novi Sad. On September 9th, the program will be held in the area of the abandoned Motel "Šumice" in Odžaci. On September 10th and 11th, there will be live art performances at the SULUV gallery in Novi Sad.

ASHES TO ASHES sound excerpt from performance
THE 60 SECOND RADIO PROPOSITION IS VERY SIMPLE. WE ARE COMMITTED TO NEW WAYS TO APPROACH RADIO A MEDIUM OF TRANSMISSION AND TO PRODUCE RADIOWORKS. WE WISH TO OFFER TO ALL RADIO PRACTITIONERS, ARTISTS AND ARTISANS, WHO ARE AT THE FOREFRONT OF INNOVATION, TO THOSE WHO HAVE IN THEIR HANDS, IN THE HOLLOW OF THEIR VOICES AND INSTRUMENTS, NEW NARRATIVE PROPOSALS, A CHANNEL TO REWARD THEM, A WAY TO REBROADCAST THEM, TO ALLOW A MOMENT THAT IS EXCLUSIVELY DEDICATED TO THOSE WHO USE THE MEDIUM TO PROMOTE ITS ARTISTIC VALUE.And 60s radio is open to productions in all languages and from every country and continent, because we are not alone in our love for radio and also, because this is where we are from… Radio art’s mission is sometimes to shake the imaginary, to guide it at the end of the airwaves and programmed recordings. Radio art sets the stage for a new radio practice and highlights the multiple possibilities of broadcasting. It transcribes, with sounds, colors, voices, poetry, a certain multiplicity of listening skills and proposals. It is at times and we know it, an act of faith. We, at 60 Second Radio, are from the school of inventiveness, in favor of the musicality of radio, of transcultural broadcasting. We appreciate all forms of broadcasting but dedicate this event to radio art. We are located at its narrative confluences and for the staging of sound. Radio is an artwork, a world to listen, to express ideas and invent. We are sometimes silent and impressionistic, otherwise verbal and descriptive, raw or docile, aesthetic or annoying. We take center stage or observe it through the keyhole.
Radio art can express itself in thousands of ways (sound poetry, field, sound art, radio art, fiction, creative docs, mutant radio…), and this rendez-vous is above all a statement to confess our renewed thirst for radio.www.60secondesradio.com/playlist-2022

Surrealism and DADA issue //
Artist name: Noel Molloy
Description: Noel’s practice is performance art, influenced by the Dadaists and their actions such as Cabaret Voltaire and their use
of objects and costumes he also makes performance videos using photographs which are then animated and manipulated .
This simple work was done around the time of a major house move and the feelings of anxiety and the question did he make the right
move and somehow wanting to turn the clock back,
like reversing a photograph, but Time waits for no man.
Watch the film on www.haus-a-rest.com when the zine goes live!

Eco Aware Art Gallery #soloshow #artexhibition #ecoawareartgallery First Solo show art exhibition of Artist Noel Molloy From Ireland, organised by Eco aware art gallery Growing up in Ireland there was a culture of not wasting anything, everything was reused or repurposed nothing was discarded. Tools were repaired or fashioned for other uses. Some use was found for all, natural materials were used for packaging etc. there was no plastics and everything was recycled. That’s what created my interest when studying at Art Collage when I discovered junk and found object Art. My materials for my work was collected from the city landfill site and picked up from various locations where there was house clearances etc. , as much as I can the works were and continue to be made from waste materials and found objects. I have been working professionally as an Artist since 1983 and have been working this way in my sculpture and performance Art. |

Noel Molloy – Selected Audio Work 1983 - 1999
(Nyahh Records)
Since the late 70s, Roscommon multidisciplinary artist Noel Molloy has made strange, challenging works out of found objects and domestic detritus. Visit his website, and you’ll find contorted scrap metal sculptures of soldiers, dancers, kings and bears. You’ll see an Irish flag, painted across three bottles of holy water. You’ll see a baby’s pram, crudely repurposed into a sort of military vehicle. A rusty mask will stare back at you with a grotesque metallic grin. Molloy’s semi-figurative creations occupy an uncanny space that is tied to the familiar, but is outlandish enough to trigger unique, unpredictable responses. His feverishly out-there performance pieces engage the mind in a similar, synapse-sizzling way; costumes, set designs, abstract actions, cut-up audio and musical extracts allude to themes such as religion, conflict, history and environmentalism, but what it “means” is left entirely to the audience. Selected Audio Work 1983 - 1999, released on Leitrim’s Nyahh Records, stitches together the extracted sounds from some of these performances, leaving the mind to create its own wild, visual accompaniment. This is a collection of growling, hypnotic oddness, full of distorted voices, faint musical interjections and clattering environmental audio. It pulls you into its strange, tactile world, where the sounds of saw on wood, an inter-county fallout warning, and a crumpled clip of a 1930s pop tune become haunting choruses to a concrète symphony. It’s a fascinating document for the archives of experimental Irish art.

With Other Matter
Roscommon Arts Centre
For long periods in 2020 and 2021 social restrictions limited our interactions with people. Urged to stay at or close to home our engagements with the things and other matter that occupies these spaces intensified. This period has enabled a time to build new relationships with nature, plant species and other living things that surround us, allowing us closer observation and interaction with the often overlooked familiar things we live with and alongside.
The artists included in this exhibition were selected by Curator in Residence Naomi Draper through an open call to share works and processes inspired, influenced and involving ‘other matter’, plants and nature things. Through two group exhibitions in 2022 thirty-two artists will share their observations and interactions with other matter throughout 2020 and 2021.
EXHIBITION OPENS SATURDAY 29th JANUARY & CONTINUES UNTIL SATURDAY 12th MARCH
